This intriguing cased, Bartholomew, Stenograph has a fold up armature holding the metal spool for the paper tape and a telescoping middle key that slides forwards when operating. The image below shows the spool folded down and the middle key pushed back for the lid to close.
The Stenograph frame is made of brass and is screwed to the inside of the case and is not intended to be removed when in use.
The last patent date shown is Nov. 16, 1886.
This is the only known example of its kind and may be a prototype.
