The gorgeous Malling Hansen typewriter was made in Denmark. It was invented in 1865, patented and put into production in 1870.
It is a most remarkable looking machine and is exquisitely made out of brass to very fine tolerances. It holds its place in history as the first typewriter to be made in any quantity with about 500 being manufactured.
It was designed to be used by the vision impaired with the characters raised on top of the brass plungers to allow the operator to feel which characters were selected.
