Automatic Check Punch

Automatic Check Punch

The Brady MFG. Co., Brooklyn, N.Y. - 1885

The beautiful Automatic check Punch from 1885, really defines the mechanical aesthetic of the time with its solid build and flourish for pleasing lines and decorations.

This little (but heavy) machine cuts out numbers and figures, as selected by the rotating wheel on top, from a check to ensure that no one can fiddle with the amount. Check protectors are still in use today when one gets a bank draft or money order.

There is quite the charming warning on the back which reads 'Do not allow local mechanics or traveling tinkers to tamper with this machine it can only be properly repaired at OUR FACTORY. It will cost you less money (in the end) even with Express Charges added.'
