Edelmann - sold

Wernicke, Edelmann & Co., Germany
1897 - serial no.17576

This well made index typewriter was a latecomer, as most of the typewriters being manufactured at this time had keyboards. Nonetheless, the Edelmann met with considerable success and sold right up to the beginning of the First World War.

The curved index strip is porcelain on metal and over a hundred years later, still looks brand new.

By moving the wooden knob, back and forth, one selects the characters and then pushes the knob down into the alignment gate, bringing the type-wheel onto the platen.

It has two shift keys, giving access to the type-wheel's three rows of characters.
